"Fei Ji", "Fei Ji" (airplane, airplane) Feng Tian Zhong calls fascinated from the crowd. The long silver object with the enormous back fin certainly resembles a flying object. The Chinese on the Tiananmem Square in the middle of Beijing however is mistaken, the Rinspeed E-Go Rocket has arrived in China.
(Beijing, Peoples Republic of China) Tremendous commotion on account of the Swiss car customizing company Rinspeed Inc. As the first car manufacturer of the world Rinspeed with the support of the Swiss watch specialist "Les Ambassadeurs" and the tire manufacturer "Continental" was successful in getting a road permit for an exotic prototype which had drawn the crowds at many automobile shows like a magnet.
The owner, Frank M. Rinderknecht (42), himself drove the 400 hp self constructed vehicle "E-Go Rocket" for three days through the streets of Beijing and its surroundings. At each stop large groups of people admired the one seater vehicle. Hundreds of Chinese gathered around the this dream car priced at US$ 250'000.- and asked the driver all kind of questions and took many pictures. On the famous Tianamem Square the regular traffic almost collapsed. Frank M. Rinderknecht : "I never saw anything like this, now I know how movie stars feel when they appear in public. Autographs fortunately I didnt have to give".
Highlight of the "E-Go" trip: An excursion to the Chinese wall which was visited only a few days before by President Clinton on his trip to China. And also at this historical monument, crowds by which even President Clinton would have been honored. Everyone wanted to touch the car and get "good luck".
In order to be able to shoot a usable photo of the historical meeting between a Swiss high-tech vehicle and the Chinese monumental architecture, the "E-Go Rocket" had to take a second trip on its "Continental" tires to the Wall, late in the afternoon, after the tourists were gone.
After the visit to China the "E-Go Rocket" flew back to Switzerland in the freight compartment of a "Lufthansa Cargo" plane. Now it is being made fit for further trips abroad.
